Review

If you like “Lost”, the famous TV show in which a bunch of passengers of a commercial flight crash in a mysterious island, trying to survive and living amazing adventures, definitely you’ll love this game. “Virtual Villagers 3: The Secret City” is the third edition of the Virtual Villagers series. In this game, you have to help to survive and guide the little villagers from the Isola Island. You have to teach them survival skills and solve a lot of puzzles along the way.
There six main screens on the game. Let’s know about them:
1. Main Screen: is where most of the action takes place. You can scroll around, pick up villagers and help them interact with their new island home.
2. Villager detail: see a villager’s age, health, skill level and dislikes.
3. Collections: see the fun items your keen-eyed children have spotted and collected from all over the village.
4. Map: zoom out to see your entire village.
5. Technologies: is where you guide your villagers’ research. When your villagers produce enough tech points, you can spend them on this screen to improve life on the island.
6. Puzzles and milestones: one of your goals is to discover the mysteries of the island and achieve the 16 milestones.
When you first enter the game, you’ll see the welcome screen with the following options:
-Tribe: the first time there’s no existing player (tribe). After you create one or more, they’ll be saved. When you enter into this submenu, you’ll be asked for a name as a new player. It’s possible to have a list of different players and record their performance. This way, you can play home tournaments with family and friends.
- Play: this option leads you to the first level. You’ll be shown the introduction first, which you can skip at any time.
- Start over: to start a new game from the very beginning.
- Options: this is the menu from which you can set some game options like: sound effects volume, music volume, voices volume, music tracks, difficulty, game speed, and full screen.
- Help: it shows a card-style help to learn playing the game.
- Quit: no further explanation required.
Once you are playing, you can press the MENU button to see the following pop-up menu:
- Play: to go back to the game.
- Options: to see the options menu.
- Start Over: to start playing the current level all over again.
- Change tribe: to change the tribe with which you play.
- Help: to display the game help.
- Quit: to exit the application.
